Tuburan is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. It is bounded on the north by the municipality of Tabuelan, on the east by the municipalities of Sogod and Catmon, on the south by the municipality of Asturias and on the west by Tañon Strait.
Tuburan was founded in the 1851 by Don Mariano Montebon who hailed from the town of Sogod, Cebu. The townsite was first located at Daan Lungsod which is just acroos the Adela River, north of the present Poblacion, Tuburan got its name from the prevalence of springs, which are the sources of potable water for household use of the early settlers. “Tuburan” it is averred, evolved from the Cebuano- Visayan dialect “Tubod” meaning spring.
Fishing and agriculture are the main industries in Tuburan.

Tuburan is situated in the northwestern part of the island of Cebu and is about 96 km from Cebu City via Toledo City and 99 km. via Lugo in Sogod. It is bounded on the north by the municipality of Tabuelan, on the east by the municipalities of Sogod and Catmon, on the south by the municipality of Asturias and on the west by Tañon Strait.
Tuburan can be reached by buses of V-Hires (vans) from the Cebu North Terminal in Cebu City. Travel time is about 2 hours.

Tuburan is composed of 54 barangays, namely: Alegria, Amatugan, Antipolo, Apalan, Bagasawe, Bakyawan, Bangkito, Bulwang, Kabangkalan, Kalangahan, Kamansi, Kan-an, Kanlunsing, Kansi, Caridad, Carmelo, Cogon, Colonia, Daan Lungsod, Fortaliza, Ga-ang, Gimama-a, Jagbuaya, Kabkaban, Kagba-o, Kampoot, Kaorasan, Libo, Lusong, Macupa, Mag-alwa, Mag-antoy, Mag-atubang, Maghan-ay, Mangga, Marmol, Molobolo, Montealegre, Putat, San Juan, Sandayong, Santo Niño, Siotes, Sumon, Tominjao, Tomugpa, Barangay I (Pob.), Barangay II (Pob.), Barangay III (Pob.), Barangay IV (Pob.), Barangay V (Pob.), Barangay VI (Pob.), Barangay VII (Pob.) and Barangay VIII (Pob.).
According to the 2000 census, Tuburan has a population of 51,845 people in 11,038 households.
