Introduction

Sogod is a 4th class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. It is bounded on the north by municipality of Borbon, on the south by municipality of Catmon, on the west by municipalities of Tuburan and Tabuelan and on the east by the Camotes Sea.

History

The name “Sogod” was derived from the local visayan dialect as “Sinugdanan” where the strip of white sand going to the north ang the black sand going to the south. Sogod was the name of the place where the contrasting colors of the sand meet was originally located in the town.

Agriculture and Tourism are the main industries of Sogod.

Sogod is situated in the northeastern coast of the island of Cebu and is about 60 kilometers from Cebu City. The municipality is bounded on the north by municipality of Borbon, on the south by municipality of Catmon, on the west by municipalities of Tuburan and Tabuelan and on the east by the Camotes Sea.

How to Get There

Sogod can be reached by public buses or V-Hires (vans) from the Cebu North Terminal in Cebu City. Estimated travel time is about 1 1/2 hours.

Sogod is composed of 18 barangays, namely: Ampongol, Bagakay, Bagatayam, Bawo, Cabalawan, Cabangahan, Calumboyan, Dakit, Damolog, Ibabao, Liki, Lubo, Mohon, Nahus-an, Poblacion, Tabunok, Takay and Pansoy.

Population

According to the 2000 census, Sogod has a population of 27,432 people in 5,846 households.
