Bogo City is a 4th class city in the province of Cebu, Philippines. It is bounded on the north by the municipality of Medellin, on the west by the municipality of San Remegio, on the south by the municipality of Tabogon and on the east by Camotes Sea.
Bogo was named from a tree, Garuga Floribunda that flowers into full bloom in the short summer of October. Bogo trees abound in the locality and have been part of the trading culture of the population before the turn of the 19th century. The people were highly engaged in fishing, agriculture and commerce and trading is done at the shade of the Bogo trees. In the late 1500’s, Bogo is part of the Augustinian mission settlement of the parish of Bantayan Island and was established as visita or capilla in 1850. Bogo’s local administration was first recorded to have been set up in 1864 under the leadership of Capitan Pedro Aballe, the first gobernadorcillo of the pueblo or town.
The plebiscite for the cityhood of Bogo was held on June 16, 2007. After few hours of canvassing, 97.82% of voters of Bogo voted for “yes” for the cityhood. Later, Representative Clavel Asas-Matinez announced that the cityhood of Bogo has been ratified. It becomes the sixth component city of Cebu province.
Bogo City’s main industries are fishing, farming and the booming tourism industry.

Bogo is situated in the northeastern coast of Cebu and is about 100 kilometers from Cebu City. The city is bounded on the north by the municipality of Medellin, on the west by the municipality of San Remegio, on the south by the municipality of Tabogon and on the east by Camotes Sea.
Bogo City can be reached by public buses or V-Hires (vans) from the Cebu North Terminal in Cebu City with an estimated travel time of about 3 hours.

Bogo is composed of 29 barangays, namely: Cogon (Pob.), Anonang Norte, Anonang Sur, Banban, Binabag, Bungtod (Pob.), Carbon (Pob.), Cayang, Dakit, Don Pedro Rodriguez, Gairan, Guadalupe, La Paz, La Purisima Concepcion (Pob.), Libertad, Lourdes (Pob.), Malingin, Marangog, Nailon, Odlot, Pandan (Pandan Heights), Polambato, Sambag (Pob.), San Vicente (Pob.), Santo NiƱo, Santo Rosario (Pob.), Siocon, Taytayan and Sudlonon.
According to the 2000 census, Bogo has a population of 63,869 people in 13,509 households.
