President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo went over to Cebu two weeks ago to inaugurate Plaza Sugbo, a newly rehabilitated square that encompasses Cebu City Hall and the Magellan’s Cross park. Hopefully this will set a precedent for more rehabilitation projects in the future that would help in the revitalization of the old district of Cebu City, commonly referred to as “downtown.”
The square boasts of new landscaping, brick pavements, and a much more sprawling space that are devoid of vendors and other illegal structures. Statues of historical figures such as Vicente Rama will also be erected in strategic areas.
