The Cebu provincial government has planned to install solar-power system in Malapascua Island, after the island fell into a blackout, from April 28 to last week, when its only generator conked out.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia had raised this idea earlier when she saw the solar and windmill power system installed at the 4-hectare property of environmentalist lawyer Antonio Oposa in Sta. Fe, Bantayan Island.
North Cebu airstrip spurs interest in Malapascua Island

CEBU CITY, Dec. 19 (PNA) - Work on the planned P30 million airstrip in Daan Bantayan town in northern Cebu will start once the master plan for Cebu’s 4th district is completed.
Rep. Benhur Salimbangon of the 4th district said he wanted the airstrip to complement the master plan of the district.

The master plan will become the bible for development in the 4th district. Any development to sprout in the district has to jibe with it, otherwise it will not have a significant impact to the public, Salimbangon said.
P500-M six star hotel to rise in Daan Bantayan

CEBU CITY, Philippines - To complement the position of Malapascua island as a premier tourist destination, Cebu-based MSY Holdings Corp. is building a P500-million six-star hotel in barangay Agujo, Daan Bantayan, north Cebu.
Martin Philip S. Yeung, MSY Holdings Corp. chief operating officer (COO), said that the 18-room exclusive facility would be completed in the middle of next year.

Yeung said he was upbeat about Malapascua island’s prospects because of the planned opening of an airstrip in Daan Bantayan.
