President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo went over to Cebu two weeks ago to inaugurate Plaza Sugbo, a newly rehabilitated square that encompasses Cebu City Hall and the Magellan’s Cross park. Hopefully this will set a precedent for more rehabilitation projects in the future that would help in the revitalization of the old district of Cebu City, commonly referred to as “downtown.”

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Part of Magallanes Street in Cebu City fronting the City Hall will stay closed until June due to delays in the completion of landscaping works for City Hall.
Vice Mayor Michael Rama said the P5 million that the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) released for the landscaping project has run out. The city government is awaiting the release of another P6 million, since the PTA promised a total of P11 million for the project.

The newly-refurbished session hall of the new legislative building will soon become as modern as the public anticipates it to be.
Former councilor Jocelyn Pesquera, who is now consultant on budget and finance and international and local government relations, yesterday disclosed the plans to modernize the session hall and the session itself.

The Cebu City government will do something that it should have done a long time ago – clear the area around City hall of traffic obstructions.
This is in response to numerous complaints from motorists and people transacting business with the city on the traffic situation that has become unbearable.
