Thirty-four towns across the province showcased their unique festivals in the first “Pasigarbo sa Sugbo: Festival of Festivals” competition held at the Cebu International Convention Center last August 9.

Known for its world-class sinamay products, Carmen is now actively taking on an aggressive commercial promotion of its homegrown handicraft with the help of the government’s One Town One Product program.
The local government of Carmen is focusing on this particular product to bolster the economic development of the town as well as to attract domestic and foreign investors.
This February, Vice-mayor Sonia Q. Pua will be coming out with a “Bisita, Bisita sa Barangay” program, that will focus on the livelihood development of the people in Carmen and bolster the production of their sinamay products.

Here are photos of the winners of the Free Interpretation category.
Lumad Basakanon won the 1st prize for this year’s Sinulog Free Interpretation category.
They were followed by the municipality of Carmen, Alikaraw Organization of Hilongos, Leyte, Tribu Iliganon of Iligan City, and Tribu Pintaflores of San Carlos City.
The awarding of winners of the 2008 Sinulog Grand Parade was held on Monday (January 21) at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Street Dancing Category Winners: Sinanduloy, Basakanon, Carmen - Sinulog 2008

The Sinanduloy Tribe of Tangub City emerged as 1st prize winner in this year’s Street Dancing category.
Other placers include Lumad Basakanon (2nd prize) and the municipality of Carmen (3rd prize).
The awarding of winners was held Monday, January 21, 2008 at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña awarded the Sinulog winners.

Basak, Alcoy dancers win top prizes - Sinulog 2008

MANY contingents mimicked their dance steps and costumes, to the minutest detail, but the Lumad Basakanon of Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City outperformed them with its flawless execution.
With only a slight change in costume and movements from last year’s number, it won its second straight crown in the Sinulog grand parade’s free interpretation (FI) category and the top purse of P500,000.
