The Northwing, SM City Cebu’s annex building, has finally opened yesterday, November 30th. With a price tag of P1.3 billion and with all the hype surrounding it, you’d really be curious to see what’s inside the massive structure. It is also dubbed as the “Ultimate Lifestyle Center of Cebu” (even when it wasn’t opened and has not proven anything yet) so there must really be something inside. With that, I suggested to my parents that we check out the latest addition to Cebu’s shopping scene. Also, as a mallrat, I had to step on the new wing on its first day of operations, haha, or else I’d be guilty if I didn’t.

Anyway, when we arrived at SM City Cebu yesterday afternoon, we had a difficult time looking for a parking space. I assumed that the Cebuanos have converged at SM to either take a peek at the Northwing or to see one of the most high-profile local celebrities, Ms. Kris Aquino, in the flesh, at the taping of Deal or No Deal at SM City Cebu’s North Parking Area II.

This was the scene at SM’s North Parking Area II when we arrived. The ABS-CBN staff were busy with the final preparations for the show’s taping. They tested their video, audio, lighting, etc. while people were beginning to flock the area. Some of the 26K members were also seen rehearsing their dance routine.

THE EXTERIORS:

Playful lighthing features accentuate the exteriors of The Northwing plus, searchlights were placed on top of what resembles a lighthouse on both sides of the building. Wonderful! It created an effect as if the mall was the center of everything during the Northwing’s opening day.

The new SM City Cebu logo. I love it! Simple, yes, but it looks classy!

Three round structures with a water fountain each serve as one of the attractions at the main entrance of the Northwing.

THE INTERIORS:

We finally entered the Northwing and I could only say one word: WOW!

The Lobby, the focal point of the Northwing:

The people were all smiles, “oohhs” and “aahhs” upon entering the Northwing. I assume they were simply amazed as the Northwing tickled their senses.

Merry Christmas! What a perfect way to open the Christmas season with the opening of the Northwing.

SM was really true to its word when they proclaimed in their press releases prior to the opening of the new wing that the Northwing will deviate from their traditional mall development. The Northwing is spacious and elegantly designed. I, for one, don’t like malls which are cramped and tight. I appreciate and laud SM’s efforts to give the shoppers the space they want and need, the space we deserve. Also, the warm lights and the Earth tones inside the new wing are refreshing to the eyes. The perfect environment for shopping I must say.

To intensify the elegant and soothing experience at The Northwing, SM has invited Sofia, an equally elegant Bossa Nova artist to serenade the shoppers. Once on regular operations, Bossa Nova tunes will be played all over the Northwing and in the early evening, live bands will be present to play live Bossa Nova music at The Lobby.

THE SHOPS:

Understandably, since the new wing has just opened, there are not so many shops yet inside. But don’t fret, I have managed to get some insider scoop about the shops that are now open and are soon to open in the Northwing and the list is promising!
