The Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan 2010 is now over. And same as yesterday’s Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan, the event was a super, mega success! 17 contingents from the various public elementary and secondary schools in Cebu City danced to the Sinulog beat from Plaza Independencia all the way to Jones Avenue, then performed at the grand stage at the Cebu City Sports Center to impress thousands of spectators, even more than yesterday’s attendance.

The competition was composed of 2 categories: the Elementary Schools Division and The Secondary (High School) Schools Division. Supposedly, only the winners, the Top 5, of each category, are entitled (obliged) to join the Sinulog Grand Parade next Sunday, January 17, 2010 but since Sinulog Foundation Chairman and Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama was very much impressed with the performances, he used his “powers” and now, ALL the participating contingents can join the Sinulog 2010 Grand Parade! Amazing!
And The winners of the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Kabataan 2010 are:
ELEMENTARY DIVISON:

4th runner up: Labangon Elementary School – Katipunan Street, Labangon

3rd runner up: Guadalupe Elementary School / Barangay Council – Guadalupe

2nd runner up: Cebu City Central School – P. del Rosario Street

1st runner up: Lahug Elementary School – Gorordo Avenue, Lahug

CHAMPION and BEST IN COSTUME: Mabolo Elementary School – Tribu Mabolokon – MJ Cuenco Avenue, Mabolo
Personal Comment: Mabolo Elementary School was very, very, very, very deserving to the nth power. They’re routine was extraordinary. It was well executed, every moment was exciting, and every move was cheered well by the audience. OUR jaws literally dropped.

SECONDARY DIVISION:

4th runner up: Banilad National High School – Governor Cuenco Avenue, Banilad

3rd runner up: Don Sergio Osmena, Sr. Memorial National High School – Balaga Drive, Labangon

2nd runner up: Inayawan Night High School – F. Jaca Street, Inayawan

1st runner up: Camp Lapulapu National High School – Apas

CHAMPION and BEST IN COSTUME: Abellana National High School – Osmena Boulevard
Personal Comment: The competition for the Secondary Division was very tough! After seeing all their performances, I said to myself that anyone among them can win. Anyway, Abellana National High School’s victory is well justified as they had a well executed routine and props that are well thought of. And wait, do you notice something, or rather someone familiar?
presenting MS. ROTAHMAE VERANO… She is the festival queen on the current header that I’m using for this site! (photo taken at last year’s Sinulog Festival Queen Competition). Since I saw her last year (she was also the Festival Queen of Abellana National High School on Sinulog 2009), she was already my favorite Festival Queen, and oh, my camera just loves her. Rotahmae, if you’re reading this, I am now a certified fan. She is definitely one of the reasons why Abellana National High School won because she’s quite experienced in dancing with the Señor Santo Niño, she has stage presence, and she definitely knows how to project.

Congratulations Ms. Rotahmae! Congratulations Abellana National High School! Congratulations to all the winners! Congratulations to all the contingents!

I first covered the Sinulog Festival last year, and this is my first time to cover the Sinulog sa Kabataan. Some say it’s redundant to cover both the Kabataan and the Grand Parade, but then the atmosphere at Sinulog sa Kabataan is very different from that of the Grand Parade. The kids, their families, relatives, friends, teachers, classmates, schoolmates, and everyone are all full of energy and are all very sincere and inspired in their dance offering to the Senyor Santo Nino. And now that the Sinulog sa Kabataan 2010 is now over, we have bigger things to look forward to, among others, the Sinulog Festival Queen Competition, the Fluvial Procession, the Solemn Foot Procession and the Sinulog Grand Parade. So don’t forget to check the Sinulog 2010 schedule and plan ahead so that you can make the most out of your Sinulog Festival 2010!
