When word got around that the Provincial Capitol is sponsoring a Cebuano festival competition to celebrate its founding anniversary on August 9, LGU festival organizers hurriedly scampered to their drawing boards to prepare a production worthy of the P1 million grand prize.
Dubbed as Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, the event, to be held at the CICC, will be directed by Junjet Primor and will feature Cebuano festivals. It is aimed at boosting tourism in the province.
There are more than 50 Cebuano festivals to date, and more than half of the number is expected to join the competition despite the painstaking process of planning the production, the budget involved, time constraints, and the actually execution of the dance showcase. The catch is that the provincial government will provide a P100,000 subsidy for each contingent. This amount, however, may not be enough and the participating local government may have to shell out some of their own funds.
Participating contingents must have 100 dancers and props and crew, each presentation must be five minutes long.
Good luck to all participants!
