First Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, a Success!

First Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, a Success!CEBU has earned its right to claim as being the country’s festival island.

Thirty-four towns across the province showcased their unique festivals in the first “Pasigarbo sa Sugbo: Festival of Festivals” competition held at the Cebu International Convention Center last August 9.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said that the participation of the contingents shows the overwhelming Cebuano’s pride in Cebu. For her, this sense of pride did not just come from nowhere. It has already been there, sleeping for years, and was awakened because of the Cebuanos’ unity and cooperation.

“Karong gabhiona, angay ug matarong nga atong ipakita sa ubang mga probinsiya sa tibuok nasud nga Pilipinas, angay lamang nga atong ipaabot kanila ang Pasigarbo sa Sugbo!” exclaimed Gov. Garcia. (Tonight, it is only apt that we show to the rest of the provinces in the country the pride of Cebu!)

The Pasigarbo sa Sugbo capped the weeklong celebration of the 439th Founding Anniversary of the Province of Cebu.

Bantayan’s Palawod emerged as the over-all champion, receiving a P1-million cash prize. Daanbantayan’s Haladaya Festival got the second place with P800,000 and another P500,000 for winning the first place in street dancing.

The third place was bagged by Siloy Festival of Alcoy, with P700,000 and another P200,000 for winning the fourth place in street dancing.

Tuburan’s Anianihan Festival, a first-timer, landed on the fourth place with P600,000; followed by Badian’s Banig Festival with P500,000 and Santander’s Tostado Festival with P400,000. Sinamay Festival of Carmen placed 7th with P300,000 while San Francisco’s Soli-soli Festival won 8th place with P200,000.

All 34 participating contingents will receive P100,000 but after seeing all the efforts the participants had shown and the full support the local government officials had given, Gov. Garcia added another P100,000 for each.

“What we witnessed here tonight is a moment, something beyond words. Usa ka talagsaong yugto nga nahitabo kanatong mga Sugbunanon. Ug dili unta kini mahitabo kung wala pa kata magkahiusa,” Gov. Garcia added.

The awarding ceremony was held at the CICC last night.

Wow! First, i just want to thank GOD OUR HEAVENLY FATHER, to allow us to witness “SUCH FAVOULAS FESTIVAL. It was “THE BEST”. I was born in Cebu, Mandaue and grew-up in Australia. My mum and I was just so fortunate to see such an amazing event. The street dancing was breath-taken and the night compliment it, with radiant costumes and colours. And the fire works, was the icing of the cake. WOW! WOW! WOW!

I have been to many different countries in my life and seen many festivals, but the “PASIGARBO sa SUGBO” is the best (second to SINULOG CEBU). It was so good that i tooked at least 1000 photos and even return on Monday night for the announcement of the winners. VERY WELDONE CEBU. WE LOVE YOU!!!

A VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO THE ORGANISERS…(thank you for making the PEOPLE HAPPY)!!!

    GOD BLESS PHILIPPINES!!!
