The Cebu Provincial Government will extend financial assistance to the families of those who drowned in the sinking of a passenger vessel near Romblon.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said that the Capitol will help by giving P5,000 for each family. The distribution of the assistance will be made in the municipality where the families live.

“Kini aron ma gaan-gaan ang ilang kalisud karun,” she said.

The governor will inform municipal mayors so they could coordinate with their municipal health center and social welfare office.

Gov. Garcia accompanied President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who visited Cebu this morning to be with the families.

“I told the president that we’re doing our share in Cebu,” said Gov. Garcia.

President Arroyo distributed P10,000-financial assistance for the families at the Abellana National High School. Thirty families benefited from the ceremonial distribution.

Before the President handed out the assistance, a mass was held at the school gym, officiated by Father Dan Delos Angeles.

Fr. Delos Angeles, in his homily, said that the Catholic Church is expressing sympathy to the families of the victims.

Meanwhile, the President also attended the 61st anniversary of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) in Mactan.

She congratulated (PAF) for their years of service. “We honor those who risk their lives to save others,” she said.

The President apprised the soldiers of the 10-percent increase for all government employees, and the allocation of funds to buy brand new helicopters and “not just refurbished.”

PAF Commanding General Pedrito S. Cadungug thanked the President, and at the same time also expressed sympathies for the victims and their families. Sugbo
