Sinulog, Syagit ug Kusog! Pit Senyor! Pit Senyor! Tanan magsaulog! (Sinulog, shout out loud! Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let’s all celebrate)
The Sinulog Festival, Cebu’s largest annual event, is one of the most colorful festivals in Asia today. It is celebrated for nine days with two major activities as highlights –a religious procession on Saturday and grand street parade the next day. It got its name from a ritual dance in honor of the miraculous image of the Santo Niño.
Sinulog 2009 is near and everyone is excited about the country’s largest and grandest festival that is sure to surprise everyone as it goes to the next level next year. Here is the tentative schedule of activities for the event everyone is waiting for.
January 9, 2009 (Friday) - Sinulog 2009 Kick off / Launching (Sinulog Through the Years photo exhibit at Ayala Center Cebu, SM City Cebu and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport)
- 2pm - Solemn Mass (Basilica del Sto. Niño)
- 3pm - Launching Parade (from the Basilica del Sto. Niño to the Cebu City Sports Center a.k.a. Abellana)
- 7pm - Opening and Launching Program featuring the Mandaue City Children’s Choir, Dancesports Team Cebu, and Dance Troupes from participating schools and universities in Cebu (Fuente Osmeña)
