THE rich and historic city of Carcar celebrated its first ever Charter Day celebration by officially opening its city museum.
Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and Mayor Patrick Barcenas led the ribbon cutting ceremony of the museum early this morning. The museum used to be the old city’s dispensary building.
Mayor Barcenas expressed that Gov. Garcia has been instrumental in the construction of the museum because of her avid support and encouragement that each town must put up its own museum.
“Kining atong gi-ablihan, gi-blessingan nga museum ubos gyud ni sa paningkamot sa atong bise mayor og sa suporta sa atong Sangguniang Panglungsod members ug ingon man ang mga barangay kapitanes,” he added.
Gov. Garcia recalled four years ago when she vowed to rekindle the Cebuano’s sense of pride and turn it to a burning passion to propel the Province of Cebu to unprecedented heights of progress and development.
“And so I asked all our local government units to look back to the past, to value the mementos that had been left by the past, to preserve and appreciate our heritage. Because I believe that if indeed we were to face a future where all of us needed to join hands in order to attain that bright and prosperous future that is each Cebuano’s birthright,” Gov. Garcia said.
That is why early on her first term she put up the Provincial Tourism and Heritage Council to preserve the remaining sites, relics and structures of the province.
Last May, the council had organized a seminar-workshop participated by tourism officers to equip them with the basic knowledge in establishing and operating a museum.
