Alcoy took the crown as the 1st Festival Queen in the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo

THE Municipality of Alcoy shone during the first ever search for Ms. Festival Queen, edging out 23 cities and municipalities who sent their most beautiful and captivating women to compete for the title.

Eight carefully selected judges picked out the best among Cebu’s beauty and brains last August 7 at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

Mae Timtim of Alcoy’s Siloy Festival was crowned Ms. Festival Queen 2008. Ann Marie Pantin of Aloguinsan’s Kinsan Festival was first runner up, followed by Carmel Andrade of Santander’s Tostado Festival, Ruby Mae Mangubat of Bantayan’s Palawod Festival and Daanbantayan’s Haladaya Festival.

Pantin of Aloguinsan was awarded Best in Festival Costume while Timtim of Alcoy was the Best in Solo Performer and Best in Production.

“Kining nahitabo karong gabhiuna dili usa ka resulta nga takulahaw lamang. Kini maoy atong nakab-ot tungod, kay sa milabay nga karon muupat na ka tuig, kitang mga Sugbuanon nipili nga maghiusa, magtambayayong ug ipakita sa tibuok Pilipinas ug sa tibuok kalibutan ngano nga angay natong ipasigarbo nga kita mga Sugbuanon,” said Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia. (Tonight’s event was accomplished because for four years now, we chose to be united to show the Philippines and the world why we are proud to be Cebuanos.)

She also pointed out that the CICC, the venue for the event, is an edifice built by Cebuano hands during a difficult time.

The search for Ms. Festival Queen is a part of the weeklong 439th founding anniversary celebration of the Cebu province.
