Akhro to join Sinulog

The Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity (Akrho) planned to join in Sinulog Grand Parade under the free interpretation category.

If the group will be allowed to join, police escorts will be given to them to prevent any untoward incidents between them and its rival groups.

Cebu City councilor Augustus Pe Jr., chairman of the City Council’s committee on peace and security, said the city will just have to adjust to Akrho’s needs and that their rival fraternity will just have to be stay away from them.

Richard Buscayno, Akrho regional chapter president, said they will not just sponsor a certain “tribe” but their members will dance their Apocalypto-inspired dance number.

Buscayno said about 70 Akhro members have been practicing since December of last year.

The fraternity will also join in the float and puppet competitions.

Akrho’s participation is shouldered by its international chapters in the United States of America, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland and Korean chapter.

The group’s number is inspired by the 2006 movie of Mel Gibson “Apocalypto” which depicts the Maya civilization offering human beings as sacrifice for their Gods.

Buscayno addressed their letter of their intent to join the Grand Parade to Acting Mayor Michael Rama, who said he will not oppose to the group’s participation.

Rama referred Akrho’s request to Ricky Ballesteros, executive director of the Sinulog Foundation Inc.

“We have to inculcate to the people that they are also part of the Sinulog event,” Rama said.

Rama, however, warned the Akrho members to police their own ranks and help attain peace and order.

Different fraternities agreed to cooperate in eradicating graffiti in the city.

Rama said members of the fraternities who vandalized the streets should be the ones to clean their own mess.
