The observance of Independence Day on June 12, a Thursday, has been moved earlier to June 9, in accordance with a new law rationalizing public holidays, Malacañang announced yesterday.
According to Malacañang, June 9, which falls on a Monday, would be a non-working holiday.

THREE cities in Cebu emerged among the top six cities where it is easiest to start a business in the Philippines, according to a survey commissioned by the International Finance Corp. and the World Bank.
Lapu-Lapu City is the second easiest city to start a business in, next only to Taguig. Cebu City placed fourth, while Mandaue landed sixth in a list of 21 cities in the “Doing Business in the Philippines 2008” survey.
Tourist arrivals up in Central Visayas

CENTRAL Visayas, which is being promoted as the tourism hub of the country, posted a 10.17-percent growth rate in visitor arrivals for the first quarter this year over the same period in 2007.
The region recorded 535,396 visitors from January to March this year compared to 485,993 visitors in the same period in 2007, reflecting an increase of 49,403 tourists.

Cebu North coastal road may cost P2.3B

THE proposed construction of the Cebu North Coastal Road will cost the national government around P2.3 billion. The road project is a 9.45 kilometer highway running through the coastal areas of Mandaue City, Consolacion and Lilo-an.
The proposed road section will link the new Mandaue City central business district and government center and the new Northern Metro Cebu urban development area. The latter encompasses the Mactan International Airport, the Mactan Export Processing Zone and the Mandaue reclamation.
