Ceboom Part II

CEBOOM was a term coined in the early 90s to refer to the economic boom in Cebu during that time. Super Typhoon Ruping which devastated Cebu very much on November 13, 1990 (15 days before my birthdate) played an instrumental role in Ceboom and it could be said that the disaster served as the catalyst for Ceboom. It’s ironic that a disaster can bear some positive fruits, eh? Well, it all started when the local leaders in Cebu requested for assistance from the national government but because the typhoon also devastated much of the capital, the request was turned down since Manila, being the nation’s capital, was the main priority at that time. As a result, the Cebu leaders and most especially the people, took the initiative and made the necessary steps for Cebu to recover and rise again and then came, Ceboom.
And now comes Ceboom Part II. Cebu has never witnessed this much construction and development since its inception. All these are fueled mainly by the upsurge of the tourism and information technology industries and Cebu’s emergence in these industries.

Cebu’s skyline has transformed a lot in recent years and it will continue to do so in the next few years with all these projects under construction and all those in the pipeline.
The only question to be answered is if Cebu can sustain all the development it is experiencing right now or if it will follow Metro Manila’s mistakes. We can only hope for the best for Cebu and the rest of the country and we will all know the answers to this question in the years to come.
For now, let us all enjoy and experience CEBOOM Part II!

Holy Week starts today. To Catholics, Orthodox Christians, High Anglicans and High Episcopalians and the Filipino independent Catholics also known as the Aglipayans—to those of these faiths who still value the observances of the Church—Holy Week, in the forty days of Lent, stands out as the preeminent week of penance.
