CEBU CITY, Dec. 19 (PNA) - Work on the planned P30 million airstrip in Daan Bantayan town in northern Cebu will start once the master plan for Cebu’s 4th district is completed.

Rep. Benhur Salimbangon of the 4th district said he wanted the airstrip to complement the master plan of the district.

Asian Spirit

The master plan will become the bible for development in the 4th district. Any development to sprout in the district has to jibe with it, otherwise it will not have a significant impact to the public, Salimbangon said.

TO offer more chances to children who want to join the Sinulog Festival but cannot, the Department of Education (DepEd) Cebu City Division declared January as Sinulog month for all the schools in the city. This will encourage students and teachers to participate in the Sinulog dance, with its characteristic “two steps forward, one step back” movement, for five minutes after every flag ceremony starting Jan. 1.

The Sinulog Festival is the country's biggest and grandest tourism event. And it hopes to surprise everyone as it raises its standards for 2008.

SM to invest P1B more to make hotel near Cebu mall operational

AFTER completing its expansion project for SM City Cebu, the real estate development arm of the SM Group is now bent on completing its first hotel venture in Cebu next year and has earmarked P1.5 billion for the interior works and finishing works.

Hans Sy, president of SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SMPHI), said the company’s total capital investment for Sofitel Hotel is estimated at P2.5 billion, where an additional P1.5 billion will be allotted for interior works and finishing touches and not for repairs as relayed by past controversies.

Currently a white elephant, this hotel building will soon resume its construction and will be managed by Sofitel

Sy belied rumors about the hotel’s construction, saying the construction was stopped not because of structural defects but due to the huge slump of the Philippine economy relative during the Asian financial crisis in 1997 and the severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars) disease that hit Asia.

SM City Cebu’s Northwing opens

The Northwing, SM City Cebu’s annex building, has finally opened yesterday, November 30th. With a price tag of P1.3 billion and with all the hype surrounding it, you’d really be curious to see what’s inside the massive structure. It is also dubbed as the “Ultimate Lifestyle Center of Cebu” (even when it wasn’t opened and has not proven anything yet) so there must really be something inside. With that, I suggested to my parents that we check out the latest addition to Cebu’s shopping scene. Also, as a mallrat, I had to step on the new wing on its first day of operations, haha, or else I’d be guilty if I didn’t.

Anyway, when we arrived at SM City Cebu yesterday afternoon, we had a difficult time looking for a parking space. I assumed that the Cebuanos have converged at SM to either take a peek at the Northwing or to see one of the most high-profile local celebrities, Ms. Kris Aquino, in the flesh, at the taping of Deal or No Deal at SM City Cebu’s North Parking Area II.

SM City Cebu Northwing

This was the scene at SM’s North Parking Area II when we arrived. The ABS-CBN staff were busy with the final preparations for the show’s taping. They tested their video, audio, lighting, etc. while people were beginning to flock the area. Some of the 26K members were also seen rehearsing their dance routine.
